Today we conducted a mathematical investigation that involved properties of physics.
Purpose: To Design a prototype to investigate the distance one glass marble could roll on a hard surface.
(Create a device which is going to propel on class marble to see how far it will go.) [measure distance]
Materials:
- 1.5 metre of masking tape.
- 3 metre wooden ruler.
- 3-4 glass marbles.
- Chalk
Predictions:
1st marble: 5.30m
2nd marble: 1.50
3rd marble: 5.11
Method
Two rulers were taped together diagonally using the masking tape. Once secure, the prototype was taken outside to the court area to provide a concrete surface for the marble to roll on.
Our prototype ( track) was elevated 440mm, by placing the track into one of the fence gaps. We rolled the marbles down the track to investigate the distance it would travel.
Results:
1st Marble: 3.20m
2nd Marble: 2.22m
3rd Marble 2.48m
Conclusion:
That the higher the elevation of the ruler (our track) the further the distance of the marble will travel. The power that was created by the elevation is the physics in our investigation.
